Heritage Flight Museum is disappointed to announce that we’re cancelling May Fly Day. Don’t fret, we are still flying on Saturday, 25 May, but we are calling it just “a day we will be flying.” The issue is that the runway in front of the museum (runway 04/22) will be closed in advance of repairs so we cannot fly our usual formation low approaches over that runway.
You may ask “If you are flying, why not just call it a “Fly Day”? Because the closed runway means your ability to see our aircraft flying is greatly impeded, we cannot deliver the up-close flying our patrons expect of our Fly Days. What we can deliver is your opportunity to see aircraft start and taxi out, fly on the distant runway, pass overhead at pattern altitude, land on the distant runway, and taxi back in to shut down; all of the usual things except the flybys. Since we will be focused on good training for our ground crews and pilots, and constrained to runway 11/29, we do expect fewer sorties than a usual Fly Day might offer.
To make up for the operational shortcomings, we are waiving admission for the day, although donations to financially support the museum are always encouraged and accepted. We greatly appreciate the Port of Skagit continuing to support the repair of runway 04/22. Looking forward, we will explore options for how to effectively accomplish a full Fly Day before summer’s end. Stay tuned for further developments on Facebook and heritageflight.org.
